Offered here is a variation (fourth model) of Merwin, Hulbert & Co.'s large frame double action revolver manufactured exclusively by Hopkins & Allen in the 1870s and 1880s with conventional fluted cylinder, square butt with lanyard ring, pinned front sight, barrel rib and folding hammer spur. The frame is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER 1873", the designation for 44-40 caliber, on the left side. The matching serial number ("23483") is found on the butt, rear cylinder face and barrel lug, "168" is on the hammer spur, and the matching assembly number ("2593") is found on the left side of the grip frame and right grip panel.

Very fine, retaining 85% plus original nickel finish with flaking on the right rear side of frame with the remainder mostly bright. 75% of the vibrant original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger guard. The grips are also very fine with crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
