Description:

The engraving has been attributed to Master Engraver Enoch Tue who worked for Savage in the early 1900s and also did work outside the factory. The stippling on the bottom of the frame and the grip straps that accents the engraving is certainly consistent with his work. See the Savage Model 99s engraved by Tue on page 234 of "Steel Canvas" by R.L. Wilson for examples of his work. The engraving and stippling covers nearly all of the frame and primarily consists of tight English style scrollwork which is also not out of keeping with Tue given he apprenticed at E.J. Churchill. The barrel is numbered "1733" and twice marked for .22 LR on the bottom and has a globe front sight and the Remington Arms address on top. The left side of the grip straps has "4259", and "4257" is also on the back strap. An adjustable target rear sight is on the breech ring, and the rolling block, hammer, and trigger are engine turned on the sides. The forearm and grip have multi-point checkering. The latter also has an oval pearl pommel cap carved with the head of a bull moose. It comes with a custom faux leather bound case with purple velvet lining fitted to the gun and the two included boxes of Remington Kleanbore .22 LR ammunition.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine overall as Master embellished with 90% blue finish, wear on the sides near the muzzle from a hood used with a prior front sight, some spots of minor oxidation, crisp engraving and checkering, small chip on the heel, and minor marks and scratches. Mechanically fine. The case is very good with minor wear.
