Description:

Manufactured circa 1857 until 1860. This revolver is a fine example of the last variation of the so called "1st-1st". The final change eliminated the rotating plate and saw the implementation of a ratchet as part of the cylinder. The top of the rib is marked "SMITH & WESSON. SPRINGFIELD. MASS", patent marking on the cylinder. The matching assembly number "3A" is marked on the rear of the barrel lug, cylinder and left frame heel under the grip. Standard blade front and notch rear sights, the barrel and cylinder blue, with a silver plated brass frame. Complete with a period walnut case lined with red velvet and bullet block.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 70% bright original blue finish remains on the barrel thinning on high points with only minor collector type handling marks. The cylinder retains 60% thinning original blue the balance a mottled brown patina. All markings are clear. The two piece hammer is slightly elongated from repair or replacement but retains vibrant and bright original case colors. The frame retains 85% strong original silver plating with patches of mellow brass beginning to show. The grips are excellent plus exhibiting a wonderful aged patina. The period dealer case is very good. The red interior shows some wear. Overall a handsome, S&W 1st 6th!
