This is a much sought after example of an etched panel Colt Single Action Army revolver. The barrel has the one-line address stamped on top and the etched panel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side. This etched barrel panel marking was officially replaced by the Colt factory in the early 120,000 serial number range with the much easier to produce and larger roll-stamping. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 5 1/2 inch barrel in .44-40 caliber, blue finish and hard rubber grips when shipped to Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Co., Chicago, IL, on August 6, 1884. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking, and the left side of the trigger guard is marked "44 C.F." Matching numbers on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder and barrel.

Very good plus, retaining 25% bright original blue finish and traces of original case colors with the balance between smooth and mottled brown patinas. The etched panel is legible. The grips are fine with minimal handling evidence and crisp checkering overall. The hammer sits low in the safety notch , otherwise mechanically very good.
