Description:

The upper tang is inscribed "A.V./LEBEDA/A/PRAGUE" indicating the gun was manufactured by Antonin Vincenz Lebeda (1757-1857) of Prague whose shop is known for incredibly detailed engraving and exceptionally high quality arms. Among their clients were Emperor Franz Josef I and Archduke Franz Ferdinand of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His business was continued on by his son from 1854 to 1888. It is also marked "C. BENEDICT" inside the action. The action and furniture are heavily engraved with floral, scroll, and crosshatch patterns, and the top of the action has a rendition of a warrior king, almost certainly Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, the first king of Bohemia to also become emperor. It features blade and notch sights, double set triggers, a horn ball on the release lever, full length well-figured walnut Schnabel forearm, highly figured multi-point checkered walnut buttstock with raised cheekpiece, and "Hon/4779" engraved on the buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 50% of the thinning original brown finish on the barrel and chamber, mostly bright remaining surfaces with darker backgrounds, and crisp markings and engraving. The wood is very good with a slight hairline crack at the tail of the forearm, wear concentrated next to the trigger guard, beautiful burl figure, and crisp checkering. Mechanically fine.
