Description:

Measuring 48 inches overall, this rapier is fitted with a 41 inch blade, which starts with a hexagonal cross-section before transitioning into diamond, with deep single fullers and a square ricasso. A maker's stamp (possibly a dog or similar animal) is present on the left side of the ricasso, with faded markings in each ricasso. Repoussed vinework is present on the cup, along with a set of grotesque heads at front and rear and a pair of busts of armored men at each side, with an 11 3/4 inch long cross guard, wire wrapped twist-pattern grip, and an iron pommel decorated to match the guard.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The steel shows a mixed gray patina with shallow pitting, some light edge nicks and mild handling marks. A few thin spaces are visible in the grip wrap, along with traces of unidentified residue. A small amount of play is present in the pommel, and a slight leftward bend at the tip, otherwise the blade is straight and the fit of the furniture to the blade is solid.
