Description:

Originally established in 1809, the firm of John Blanch took on the "& Son" when William Blanch became a partner in 1848, with the firm (under different management) still active by that name as a firearms sales and repair house. In its time, the Webley Bulldog was a popular item; much like the American Deringer, it hit a well liked sweet spot in terms of size and firepower. Blade front and groove rear sights, with "442" on the left side of the barrel and "J . BLANCH & SON./GRACECHURCH ST. LONDON" on the top strap; the firm was at 29 Gracechurch from about 1826 to 1915. The cylinder is numbered "4" n the rear face, with a bright trigger and hammer, niter blue on a few of the pins, and checkered bird's head grips. With a fine hardwood case, bearing an unmarked brass plaque on the lid, a green felt lined interior with Blanch & Son label, a pewter oil bottle and a cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 75% of the bright original high polish blue finish, showing areas of gray and brown patina, bright edge wear and mild handling marks. The grips are also very fine, with some light dents. The case shows some mild wear and staining. Mechanically fine.
