Manufactured circa 1880 and retailed by John Aston of Hythe, Kent, England, who also worked with the Army School of Musketry at Hythe. It has browned Damascus barrels with a blade front sight and blued back sight of one standing and two folding leaves, and Birmingham black powder proof marks. The action has carved fences and is struck with Birmingham view marks and has non-rebounding back action locks signed "J. ASTON, HYTHE." The action, locks, trigger guard, and butt cap have traditional border and scroll engraving. The walnut stock has a checkered butt with oval silver escutcheon and smooth forend with horn Schnabel tip.

Rating Definition:

Good condition with refinished barrels, signs of slight shortening at the muzzles, recently manufactured bright front sight, reblued rear sight, clear engraving and light gray patina on the action, locks, and mounts; and possibly period replaced hammers. The stock has been varnished on the butt and has well-defined checkering, and there are some age related bruises and marks on the forend. The barrel are loose on the action, but otherwise, it is mechanically fine.
