Description:

Frederick Beesley, once an employee of the Purdey gun making firm, went on to be known unofficially as the "Inventor of the London Gun Trade" due to his many patents and innovations in firearms manufacturing, including the patent for what is famously referred to as the Purdey self cocking hammerless action. Single bead sight on the smooth concave rib marked "F. BEESLEY 2 St. JAMES'S STREET LONDON SW", 2 1/2 inch chambers with single extractor, standard British proofs on the flats, and modified/full chokes. The receiver has light scroll engraving with "F. BEESLEY" in banners on each side, dual triggers, and automatic tang safety. Checkered splinter forearm with horn tip insert, and straight grip stock with blank initial oval and checkered bare butt. Stock measurements are: drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 1 7/8 inches; length of pull 12 1/4 inches.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The professionally refinished barrels have 95% plus deep blue finish with well-defined markings and traces of light dings and pitting under the blue. The receiver has a mostly gray patina with shadows of original case colors, well-defined engraving, and some light handling marks. The wood is also fine with numerous dings and scratches and moderately worn checkering. Mechanically excellent.
