Description:

The included invoice from Westley Richards & Co. Ltd. indicates they shipped this Alexander Henry rifle (accidentally listed as 5034) to William B. Ruger of Sturm Ruger & Co. Inc. on April 8, 1971, which is only a few years after Ruger introduced his own falling block rifle line based on the action of another Scotsman: John Farquharson. Ruger is known to have owned other Henry rifles and produced rifles with the same style forend as this rifle. Donald Dallas, author of "Alexander Henry: Rifle Maker," confirmed it was a 2nd quality .577 falling block completed 20th March 1885 for Manton & Co. It has a beaded blade front sight on a raised base, two leaf rear sight (one standing, one folding) with platinum sight lines, "ALEXR. HENRY, EDINBURGH & LONDON" signed on top of the barrel, English proofs and 25 bore marking on the left, the serial number along with "A.H" and a circled "S" on the bottom of the barrel, "PATENT/NO 2219" engraved on the receiver ring, "ALEXR HENRY" signed on the back action lock, border engraving on the components aside from the barrel, "5834" engraved on the lower tang, distinctive Alexander Henry forend with multi-point checkering and single wedge, and checkered pistol grip buttstock with engraved and checkered shotgun buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally refinished with 98% plus of the plum blue and casehardened finish, minor marks and scratches, crisp markings and checkering, attractive figure on the buttstock, and dark varnish. Mechanically excellent.
