Description:

Unissued Canadian Long Branch No. 4 Mk. I* (T) sniper rifle with matching R.E.L. No. 32 MK 3 telescopic sight, Canadian transit case and No. 8 Mk.2 canvas scope case. This 1945 production Long Branch No. 4 Mk I* (T) rifle has the Canadian blue black finish on the receiver, barrel, bolt, magazine, trigger guard, barrel bands, sling swivels, buttplate, scope mount and rings. The telescopic sight has a higher polish blue finish. The forearm, sniper cheekpiece and two-piece stock are high grade, oil finished walnut. The rifle has the modified rear sight without battle aperture that was fitted to British and Canadian No. 4 Mk. I (T) sniper rifles and distinctive quick detachable telescopic sight mount. The left side of the mount is pantagraphed with the rifle serial number "90L8156". The 3X, No. 32 telescopic sight has the standard pointer and cross-wire reticle. The scope tube is roll-stamped: "TEL. STG. C NO. 32. MK. 3/COS 2039A/R.E.L. CANADA/187-C" above the 'Broad Arrow' property mark in five lines. A blue "CB" and red "W" are painted above the roll-stamped markings indicating that the scope was "bloomed" and water-proofed. The serial number of the telescopic sight "187-C" is stamped on the top of the stock wrist immediately behind the receiver. The left side of the receiver is roll-stamped: "No 4 Mk. I*/Long Branch/1945" followed by a stamped "T". The serial number, "90L8156," is stamped on the left side of the butt socket and on the rear of the bolt handle in addition to the left side of the scope mount. All of the serial numbers match. Canadian "C/Broad Arrow" property marks are stamped on the underside of the buttstock and forearm. All of the components have the correct "LB" Long Branch identification marks. The end of the wooden transit case is stamped with the "C/Broad Arrow" property mark. Included with the rifle is a rubberized canvas No. 8. Mk 2 telescopic sight case with carrying strap stenciled with "RIFLE/U34131/SCOPE/24191" and the case number. The Canadian Small Arms Limited factory at Long Branch, Ontario, manufactured 1,588 No. 4 Mk.I (T) sniper rifles between 1943 and 1945. These rifles were used by both the British and Canadian armies during WWII and the Korean War. The Long Branch sniper rifles are distinguished from British production No. 4. Mk. I (T) by the superior finish on the rifle components and telescopic sights and high quality walnut stocks, forearms and cheek pieces. The No. 4 Mk. I (T) is generally regarded as the most accurate and rugged sniper rifle issued during WWII. The Long Branch No. 4. Mk. I*(T) rifles are considered to be the best made and most accurate No. 4. Mk. I (T) sniper rifles. Original Long Branch No. 4 Mk. I* (T) sniper rifles are scarce.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. This rifle is all original and is in as-issued condition. The rifle retains more than 98% of the original blue black finish. The high quality Canadian walnut forearm, stock and cheekpiece match perfectly and are in near new condition with all of the original oil finish, crisp markings and no handling or storage marks. The telescopic sight has some very minor finish wear on the front and rear edges of the scope tube but retains 95-97% of the polished blue finish. The optics are excellent. The elevation and windage knobs turn freely. The painted "CB" and "W" marks are 98% intact and the scope and scope mount markings are perfect. The scope case is in excellent condition. This is a near new example of a scarce and very desirable all matching and original WWII Canadian Long Branch No.4 Mk.I*(T) sniper rifle with original Canadian marked wooden transit case. It would be difficult to find a better example of this important allied WWII sniper rifle.
