Description:

Developed in the 1920s, the Mark VI Enfield was part of a series of trials intended to replace or upgrade the Short-Magazine Lee Enfield as a result of observations during World War One. One of the big changes was in the barrel; the wartime Enfield barrel experienced heat issues that affected accuracy during sustained firing, so a thicker barrel was introduced, weighing a half-pound more and featuring integral bayonet/grenade launcher lugs on the muzzle. The forearm nose-cap was lightened to offset this weight increase, so as to not compromise function in snap-shooting or bayonet fighting. The results of the Mark VI testing would then be integrated into the Number Four rifle, Britain's primary rifle for World War Two. Blade front and folding peep ladder rear sights, with the King George cipher on the left side of the socket above the model designation and serial numbers (likely arsenal restamped during refurbishment for war service). The stock is fitted with a bronze buttplate and a brown leather sling marked "BUTLER BROTHERS/WALSALL/1941". The upper handguard is deeply serrated, with panels of thick checkering on the sides of the forearm.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished, with 95% of the blue, showing some light handling marks, sub-surface pitting, and fading of the maker's marks. The stock is also very fine, with a few light scuffs and dents. Mechanically excellent. Note: At the time the rifle was Arsenal refurbished a new set of wood components was installed and it was subsequently checkered in the earlier pattern.
