This is a WWII K98 rifle manufactured by the Mauser factory in 1944 as a German high turret sniper rifle and fitted with a "Ajack" marked sniper scope. The turret mounted sniper rifles were used from 1939 through 1945 and proved to be one of the best German snipers. The barrel is dated 1944. The left side of the receiver has a single "Eagle/135" acceptance proof, and left side of both the receiver and barrel have a large a single "Eagle". The left rear scope base is stamped with a single "Eagle/135" proof. The rifle has the late style barrel bands that are held on with small screws, and it is fitted with a stamped trigger guard and milled floor plate, all are unnumbered. The rifle itself has a standard front sight and the military style tangent rear sight graduated to 2000 meters, and the rear of the barrel is marked "44E38". The matching bolt is fitted with a milled low scope safety. The rifle is fitted with a standard wartime laminated handguard and stock that is fitted with a checkered cupped buttplate. The right side of the buttstock and pistol grip area is stamped with a faint "Eagle/WaA135" Waffenamt proofmark. As noted, this sniper rifle is currently fitted with an all blued "Ajack" marked sniper scope with standard turret rings with the front ring numbered "642". The left side of the base of the elevation dial is marked "52049", and the right side is marked "AJACK 4X90". The elevation ring is numbered 1-8 (100-800 meters), and it has the late pattern integral, long rain shield on the front end. This rifle is complete with a winter trigger assembly, a WWII brown leather sling and a reproduction rubber eyepiece.

Fine with 60% of the wartime phosphate finish remaining with evidence of restoration with the exposed metal fading and a streaked gray patina overall. The refinished stock and handguard are both in good condition having been lightly sanded with visible acceptance proofs as noted above. The scope and rings retain 90% of their blue finish overall with clear optics, with the reticle slightly askew to the left. Mechanically fine.
