Description:

This is a very good example of an early K98 rifle equipped with the ZF-41 scope. These long-eye relief scopes were intended as a shooting aid to improve the average soldier's hit probability. This specific rifle was manufactured by the Berlin-Lubecker factory. The top of the receiver ring is stamped "duv/41" indicating manufacture in late 1941 along with several "Eagle/214" Waffenamt proofs on both the right side of the receiver and top of the barrel. The serial number (1766/m) is stamped on the left rear side of the barrel and the receiver. It has the standard blade front and tangent rear sight and an integral scope rail on the left side of the rear sight base. The rifle has the milled components to include the trigger guard, milled floor plate and barrel bands, all correctly numbered to the rifle. It is fitted with a wartime laminate stock and top handguard. The stock is stamped "1766/m" on the underside behind the pistol grip, and it is fitted with a cupped sheet metal buttplate. The rear sight rail is fitted with a ZF-41 scope and mount. The rear leg of the scope mount is lightly etched with number "8247/g", (non-matching) over "duv". The scope is marked "ZF-41" over "cxn" which indicates it was manufactured by the "Swarovski" factory and comes with a green Army metal scope can. The can is stamped "jvb" on the back next to a waffenamt proof. The rifle is complete with an original cleaning rod and sheet metal front sight cover and one-half of a winter trigger assembly.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% of the blue finish remaining with the exposed exterior surface such as the barrel bands, trigger guard/floor plate and front barrel area having a gray/brown patina. The top exposed area of the receiver also shows some thinning with clear sharp markings. The stock and handguard are both in very good condition with a little light cleaning (but no sanding) in areas with a light color overall. The serial number is very faint, and the sides show heavier scratches/pressure dents mixed with some gouges on the sides of the forend and buttstock. The scope and mount retain 75% of the blue finish overall with the mount having a mixed gray/brown patina overall with more blue on the scope. The optics are clear. The scope can retains 50% of the green paint with the balance a gray/brown patina.
