Description:

This is an excellent example of a very rare Mauser made "American Eagle" marked Commercial Luger with the very desirable A.F. Stoeger markings. These American Eagle Lugers were the very first Stoeger Lugers made expressly by DWM under contract for A.F. Stoeger Inc. in New York for import into the United States, with some of the very early models being reworked WWI Lugers. Although it has been estimated that over 1,000 of this model were made the actual production was probably considerably less, and they are very scarce today, especially in this original high end condition. The chamber is marked with the American Eagle crest, the DWM logo is on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension is marked "A.F. STOEGER INC./NEW YORK." with a very small "GERMANY" stamped on the front of the frame below the serial number and on the middle, right side of the barrel extension. It is correctly marked "SAFE" under the safety lever. "LUGER-REGISTERED U.S. PATENT OFFICE" is on the right side rail. The underside of the barrel is stamped with the serial number "418" and the bore diameter "8.83" with a partial Imperial Eagle proof on the upper right rear end of the barrel. The front of the frame is unnumbered and is only stamped with "GERMANY". The left side of the barrel extension has a "Crown/N" proofmark, with no other proofmarks on the pistol. It has an early nickel-plated magazine with the wood base stamped with a small "GERMANY". This specific pistol is actually a very unusual and very early example that has the usual rust blue finish with some high polished blue finish and a slightly flat blue on certain parts, mixed with straw colored small components. The fact that it lacks serial numbers on major components and other various small parts and has almost no proofmarks mixed with remnants of WWI era proofmarks leads us to believe that this maybe one of the very first "American Eagle" A.F. Stoeger marked Lugers produced and imported into the United States.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 99% of the original blue finish remaining overall. The grips are excellent with exceptional checkering on both sides. Mechanically excellent. Just an exceptional very early original DWM Model 1923 American Eagle Luger with A.F. Stoeger markings.
