Description:

This is a fine restored example of a 1917 dated/manufactured DWM Artillery Luger with British acceptance and firing proofs. This pistol has a blue metal finish with straw colored smaller parts, trigger, takedown lever, safety lever, ejector spring, and magazine release. It is fitted with a set of finely checkered walnut grips. The underside of the barrel is stamped with the British firing and acceptance proofs that consist of a raised scepter over "NP" followed by "9 M/M .752" 13 TONS" with the top of the breechblock, and toggle train and right side of the barrel extension also having small "Crown/GP" firing proofs. This pistol has the distinctive 8-inch Artillery length barrel, fully adjustable tangent rear sight graduated from 1-8 (100-800 meters) and the standard inverted "v" front sight. The rear sight is fitted with the highly desirable fine tune adjustable leaf. The chamber is stamped "1917," and the front toggle has the "DWM" script monogram. The full serial number "4492i" is stamped on the front of the frame and the underside of the barrel with "4492" stamped on the barrel extension and the partial serial number "92" stamped on the various smaller parts. The frame and extractor are marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" respectively. The right side of the barrel extension has the three "Crown/Gothic Letter" German Army Eagle test and acceptance proofs. The wooden magazine base has been renumbered "4492" to match the pistol. An unnumbered shoulder stock is also included, with a brown leather flap holster, shoulder strap, and a magazine pouch (empty).

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored with 98% of the blued finish and straw colored smaller parts overall showing a hint of hand cycling wear. The walnut grips are in fine condition with nice distinct checking on both sides, mixed with light wear across the tops of the checkered diamonds showing light handling marks on both sides. It has matching numbered parts, and as noted above, the magazine has been renumbered to match the pistol. The reproduction stock rig is very good, with mild wear and handling marks.
