This is an example of Germany's first infantry repeating rifle. Blade and folding ladder sights, with the barrel marked "crown/F.W." and "crown/SPANDAU" on the chamber flats, and the receiver marked "I.G. Mod. 71/84." on the left and "1888." on the right. Matching numbers are present on most of the metal components, including the majority of the individual screws. Smooth straight grip stock, with front sling swivel and a flat buttplate.

Very fine. 85% plus original bright blue finish remains on the barrel and bands with some mild edge wear, scratches on the polished bands, handling marks overall, and sharp markings. The bright components have a mostly smooth gray patina with some darker brown spotting and oxidation. The refinished stock is fine with partial cartouches, small scuffs and dings, and the trigger guard and buttplate slightly proud to the wood line. Mechanically excellent.
