Description:

This WWII U.S. Springfield M1C Sniper Rifle is equipped with an M82 Telescopic Sight, rubber eyepiece and sliding sun shade. This rifle was originally manufactured in late 1944-early 1945. The side of the receiver is correctly fitted with a G&H type replacement, M1C scope bracket that is numbered "3453572 on the underside of the bracket. The base itself is correctly held on with three cap head screws and two taper pins. The base is fitted with a blued, Griffin & Howe M1C scope mount that is numbered "3452980" on the back side. The mount is marked on top with the two line Griffin & Howe company name and address and patent dates. The mount is fitted with an original WWII contract M82 sniper scope marked on the side: "TELESCOPE M82/SERIAL NO. 37445/ STOCK NO. 84374". The scope has the correct matching numbered (7575180) part numbers on the windage and elevation knob covers with a crosshair reticle. The rifle was refurbished for Korea as it is marked on the rear flat behind the rear sight with "SA-52", and it is currently fitted with a Springfield Armory barrel marked: "SA F65354 12-53 A207B". The barrel is correctly stamped with a single "P" firing proof. The receiver has standard Springfield markings and is fitted with the post-war rear sight assembly and the post-war wide gas cylinder and a mix of WWII and post war Springfield Armory markings. It is fitted with a GI walnut stock and front handguard with a lighter colored birch top handguard. The stock has a single circled "P" in the grip area and is fitted with a russet leather, "K/line" marked, lace-on cheekpiece. It is complete with a T-37 prong type flash hider. Nearly all of the WWII M1C sniper rifles were rebuilt by Springfield Armory or other ordnance facilities during the Korean War. A considerable number of M1C rifles remained in government storage until the start of the Vietnam War. Almost all of the M1C rifles were destroyed by the Army during the 1980s and only a few hundred M1C rifles were saved and released to the public through the CMP sales program. This rifle does not come with any additional paperwork.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 85% of a light gray parkerized finish overall showing edge and high spot wear with general thinning overall from use and handling. The wood components are all in very fine condition with a nice original dark brown tone, showing light handling marks and scratches on the sides. The early WWII cheekpiece is in fine condition, with clear markings on top with some scuffs on the sides with tight stitching. The leather lacing is tight. The M1C mount retains 95% of its blued finish overall starting to brown out on the sides and on the levers, with the scope itself having 50% plus of its original blued with the center section of the tube having a gray patina finish. The optics are clear, and the reticle is distinct.
