Description:

A small number of these rifles were sold to civilians through the DCM program and they were marked "N.R.A." This rifle is marked with the ordnance bomb over "N.R.A." on the floor plate assembly. The rifle has an oil quenched casehardened receiver and blued barrel, bolt, trigger guard and buttplate. The "S" style stock has a single reinforcing bolt, checkered butt plate and buttstock compartment. The right side of the stock at the receiver ring tapers rather than having the square corner. The 'high hump' handguard has the proper rear sight clearance cut and spring clips. The rifle has the correct, thick profile, serrated trigger, large diameter (9/16"), dished, windage knob and rear sight leaf with 2,850 yard notch. The blued straight handle bolt is unmarked. The upper barrel band has the correct "H" on the bayonet lug. The receiver has the standard Springfield Armory markings and the barrel is marked "S.A./flaming bomb/8-15" behind the front sight. The safety and cut-off lever are casehardened. The left side of the stock wrist is stamped with the Ordnance final inspector's initials ("J.S.A.") in a rectangle and the circled, script "P" firing proof is stamped behind the trigger guard behind a small "31". The stock lacks the small "S" mark on the forend tip found on early Model 1903 rifles.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% of the original blue finish. Showing some areas of moderate high point and edge wear, scattered scratches, light spotting and freckling, general handling marks and areas with an aged brown patina. The wood is fine with some small indentations, a faint hairline crack visible rear of the receiver, clear markings, and an area to the rear of the finger grooves that appears to have been held in a vise. Mechanically excellent.
