Description:

According to the included factory letter, this pistol was part of a 50-piece shipment to noted Fort Worth, Texas, dealers Wolf & Klar on March 5, 1929. This was the introductory year for the Super 38, and this batch was among the earliest to leave the factory. A big name in the Texas arms trade, Wolf & Klar was a noted purveyor of handguns to Texan cowboys of the frontier days, as well as both police and outlaws of the Prohibition/Great Depression era; more than a few famous gangsters left W&K-purchased firearms in their abandoned hideouts or in their cold, dead hands when the law finally caught up with them. The Super 38 in particular earned a reputation as having a hard-hitting round that could punch through automobile panels and primitive armor that could stop a lesser round. Half moon front and fixed square notch rear sights, with the two-line address and patent dates on the left side of the slide, the model and Rampant Colt markings on the right, and the matching number beneath the firing pin stop. The frame is marked "1/VP" and "20" on the trigger guard, with a wide hammer, short milled trigger, long grip safety, arched checkered mainspring housing, checkered grips and a two-tone magazine.

Rating Definition:

Fine as restored (work attributed by consignor to Turnbull Restoration), with 98% blue finish, showing some bright wear along the leading edges, very light scratching on the right side of the slide, and minor handling marks. The recut, replacement grips are also fine, with a few dings and flat spots on the otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
