According to the included factory letter, this pistol was part of a 30-piece shipment to "A. Charqeton y A. Aguirre" of Mexico on July 30, 1937. The letter notes the grips as "Not Listed", with a note "Special Features: Furnished with an adjustable rear sight". Due to laws in Mexico defining certain calibers as being exclusive to military and police use, including 45 ACP and 9mm Luger, the 38 Super found a waiting audience with Mexico's citizens, who had the same craving for firepower as their American counterparts. Blade front and adjustable square notch rear sights, with the two-line address and patent dates on the left side of the matching numbered slide, and "SUPER MATCH", "COLT SUPER .38/AUTOMATIC" and the Rampant Colt on the right, "T/VP" and "80" on the trigger guard. Fitted with a short milled trigger, wide hammer, long grip safety, arched checkered mainspring housing, and a two-tone Super 38 magazine. The barrel lacks factory stamps, with "82-2187/5(star)" scribed on the underside. The grips are smooth pearl with an engraved silver panel inlaid on top, surrounding an engraved brass Mexican Eagle medallion. The origin of the grips was unrecorded, but they may have been installed by the dealer/importer in Mexico.

Very good, with 20% of the original blue finish, concentrated in the protected areas, and a mixed gray patina on the remainder. Bright wear is present on the high edges and bearing surfaces, with takedown lines on the slide and frame, scattered spotting and mild handling marks. The front sight is a bit loose. The replacement grips are very good, with some light scratches and dents. Mechanically fine.
