Description:

Manufactured as a fourth model with the iron buttplate and serial number stamped in script on the lower tang behind the lever catch. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with a round barrel (currently octagon and looks original, likely a factory records error) when it was received in the warehouse on October 25, 1882, and shipped on January 4, 1882 (mostly likely 1883). Dovetail blade and elevation adjustable sights on a barrel with the two-line address/patent dates marking. The trapdoor buttplate holds a four piece cleaning rod. The '66 secured Winchester's place in the annals of the West and launched a long line of successful Winchester lever actions that remain popular to this day and still retain the basic form of the '66.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 60% plus original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The exceptionally fine receiver has an attractive patina with some minor handling evidence. The loading gate retains 50% bright original nitre blue. The wood is also fine with some chipping near the toe and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
