This fantastically embellished Krieghoff shotgun features dual white bead sights on a raised matte rib, 3 inch chambers, automatic ejectors, cylinder chokes (marked "S/S" at the chambers indicating SKEET), and fine engraving at the muzzle and breech. The breech end of the rib is marked "28/I" in gold inlay. The receiver is fully engraved with sharp foliate and scroll designs surrounding highly detailed game bird scenes of gold inlaid quail on the right, grouse on the left, and a single woodcock on the underside with delicate gold wire inlaid borders on the sides and fancy gold inlaid scroll on the bottom. The upper tang and break lever are similarly engraved with gold inlaid borders, gold inlaid crown in the lever, decorative piercing at the lever end, and the trigger guard is expertly pierced through to create the letters "J/R/L" with contrasting gold inlay. The upper tang is signed "ENG. W. KOLOUCH - 85" for Master Engraver and gunsmith Walter Kolouch. Single trigger with selector and manual tang safety. Nicely figured checkered forearm with engraved fittings and pistol grip stock with gold initial oval inscribed "J/R/L" and vented Pachmayr recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .564/.559 inch; minimum wall thickness .049/.050 inch; drop at comb 1 1/4 inches; drop at heel 2 1/4 inches; length of pull 14 3/4 inches. Comes with an aftermarket combination lock takedown case having a Robert Petersen collection label. Very few guns from Petersen's collection have made it to private hands. The vast majority of his collection was donated to the National Firearms Museum. This elaborately engraved Krieghoff is consecutively numbered to the following lot.

Exceptionally fine as embellished by Master Engraver Walter Kolouch. 99% plus deep blue finish remaining, a few light handling marks, sharp engraving, and finely detailed gold inlays. The wood is near mint with attractive grain and dark figure, crisp checkering, some small dings and visible blemishes on the right side of the buttstock. Mechanically excellent. A masterful example of fine engraving and gold work!
