Description:

One of the finer regular products of the Remington Custom Shop, the Premier Grade represents about 80 hours worth of an expert engraver's time, entirely apart from the wood work and the precise hand fitting of the components. This particular Model 1100F has the initials "JC" hidden in the left panel near the model marking; this may be Jack Caswell, a Remington engraver who had moved over to sales work but was persuaded to return to the Custom Shop in the 1970s due to a shortage of skilled artisans. Dual white brad sights on the vent rib, with a choke measuring modified, a 2 3/4 inch chamber, and a set of 5 3/4 inch wedges of punch-dot backed scroll engraving which extend past and surround the standard markings. Coverage of the receiver is 90% plus, much of the surface being covered in scroll work and punch-dots, with similar accents on the bolt and trigger guard, the latter also engraved with a dog's head. Each side of the receiver bears a set of three game scenes with gold inlaid and engraved animals, with a pair of pointers in a field scene at center and a game bird taking flight on either side. The stock is constructed from extra-fancy walnut, with fancy bordered checkering on the forearm and wrist, unmarked inscription plate on the underside of the buttstock, and a ventilated Remington recoil pad. Included with the shotgun is an extra forearm with Remington box and a packing slip listing it as a "d-grade match sample", and three extra-fancy grain buttstocks; one with fleur-de-lis bordered checkering and a Remington box, the second with heart-shaped borders, contrasting hardwood grip with "crown" engraved plate inlay, right handed comb and no buttplate, and the third with a plastic grip cap and no buttplate. Measurements (with currently installed furniture): Bore diameter 9 inches from the breech: .732; wall thickness: .10; drop at comb: 1 3/8 inches; drop at heel 1 3/8 inches; length of pull: 14 1/4 inches; overall weight: 8 lbs 7.6 oz.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 95% plus original blue finish, showing some light handling marks overall. A small amount of rust is visible on the magazine cap. The mounted wood is very good, with a grain split in the left side of the forearm and some mild dings and dents. Some light chipping/flaking of the varnish is visible at the butt, and the recoil pad is a bit undersized for the wood. The extra wood shows some light chips and scuffs. Mechanically excellent.
