A product of the Remington Custom Shop, the Premier Grade represented the top tier of Remington's factory offerings. Starting with a full top-to-bottom hand fitting of all components in the firearm, the Premier arm would also receive detailed engraving and top rate gold inlay in addition to a very fancy walnut stock; the metal work alone could represent 80 man-hours of work. In addition to the ramp blade front sight, adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight and standard markings, the barrel is decorated with a 2 3/8 inch wedge of punch-dot backed scroll engraving at the breech. The receiver coverage is over 95% fine scroll and punch dots with line and dot accents along the lower edges, hand-engraved model markings/serial number on the underside, an engraved magazine and an engraved mountain goat's head on top. Both sides show three outdoor scene panels with gold inlaid animals. The left shows a cougar laying in wait, a walking moose, and a rearing bear, and the right shows a standing ram, a leaping stag and a leaping pronghorn. The left side of the receiver is signed by Master Engraver Robert P. Runge ("RPR"), and each side depicts a single unified scene with a series of hills on the left and a mountain range on the right. Mounted with a checkered extra-fancy pistol grip stock with an engraved cap on the beavertail forearm, hard rubber Remington grip cap, a blank initial shield and a solid Pachmayr White Line recoil pad. With the rifle is Eugene Myszkowski's book "Remington Autoloading and Pump-Action Rifles", which documents this rifle as being an F grade Model 740 rifle in .30-06 done by Master Engraver Robert Runge (page 77).

Excellent plus. The rifle retains 99% plus original blue finish showing the slightest handling marks. The wood is also excellent with a few minor pressure dents. The checkering is crisp. Mechanically excellent.
