The chart on page 100 of "The Rifleman's Rifle" by Roger Rule lists a total of only 362 Model 70 rifles manufactured in the .300 Savage chambering, making it the lowest standard production caliber of those cataloged by Winchester for the Model 70. The chart further notes that the first year it was cataloged was 1947 (not regularly cataloged) with the actual dates of manufacture ranging from 1947 to 1954. Manufactured in 1953 with ramped beaded blade front and scope mounting block in the rear sight dovetail, 3B barrel marking combining the model and caliber designation as a single roll stamp, Winchester "WP" proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech, "SUPER GRADE" marked floorplate, M.L. Stith scope base mounted to the left side of the bridge with a Weaver Model 330 scope, late safety, polished bolt numbered to gun, and hollow bolt handle. The barrel is dated "46" under the stock. Checkered pistol grip stock with ebony forend cap, hard rubber grip cap, checkered steel buttplate, and inset sling swivels with leather sling.

Very good as restocked. 80% original blue finish remains with some mild edge wear and handling marks, crisp markings, scratches on the floorplate, and gray patina on the bolt handle knob. The recheckered, refinished stock is also very good with sharp though slightly worn checkering, small scattered dings, and mild wear on the buttplate. Mechanically excellent. Scope is good with small scratches and handling marks and slightly hazy optics.
