Manufactured in 1891. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .45-90 caliber, set trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, Lyman sight, shotgun butt, sling and sling swivels when received in the warehouse on July 1, 1891, and shipped the next day. Dovetail blade and elevation adjustable sights are mounted on a barrel stamped with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 WCF" at the breech. A folding Lyman tang peep sight is present. The lower tang is stamped with the two-line patent dates and serial number. Sling eyelets are mounted on the underside of the forend cap and buttstock. The action has a special order set trigger. The rifle has a blued barrel, magazine and bolt, and nitre blued loading gate. The forearm cap, receiver, hammer, trigger, lever and crescent buttplate have a color casehardened finish. Mounted on a highly figured and checkered XX walnut forearm and pistol grip stock. The buttstock has an ebony insert on the underside of the pistol grip and a shotgun style steel buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is marked "265 XX 3." The assembly number "265" is repeated on the stock inlet.

Very fine. 85% thinned original blue finish remains on the barrel and magazine tube. 97% original blue finish remains on the bolt. 70% thinned original blue remains on the buttplate with high edge wear. Some faded original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The remaining surfaces retain 60% original case colors. The wood is also very fine with minor handling evidence, crisp checkering overall and most of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent.
