Manufactured in 1885 as a third model with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated rear edge. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .38 caliber, plain trigger and casehardened finish when received in the warehouse on November 24, 1885, and shipped the same day. Equipped with blade front and elevation adjustable sights on a barrel marked with the two-line address/patent dates information and "38 CAL." The cartridge elevator is marked "38 CAL." The upper tang has the model marking, and the lower tang has the serial number. The straight grip stock is fitted with a trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The barrel, magazine tube, and dust cover retain 30% plus original blue finish thinning to a brown. 60% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. 20% original case colors (strongest in the protected areas) remain on the frame, and patterns of original case colors are on the remaining surfaces. The wood is fine with a couple small chips near the upper tang and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
