Description:

English-made double barrel shotgun imported by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co., and sold under the Winchester name between 1879 and 1884, with less than 10,000 total believed to have been imported. These were the first shotguns to bear the Winchester name and were manufactured by a number of late 19th century English gun makers and sold via the Winchester New York sales depot. Single bead sight on the smooth, concave rib marked "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS Co. (CLASS B) NEW HAVEN CONN U.S.A." with 2 1/2 inch chambers, single extractor, modified/full chokes, and British proofs on the underside of the tubes. Casehardened, sculpted receiver with light scroll engraving, "WINCHESTER/CLASS B" marked locks with matching engraving, and sculpted hammers. Checkered splinter forearm with Anson push button latch and semi-pistol grip stock with blank initial shield and steel buttplate. Length of pull is 14 inches.

Rating Definition:

Good. The period re-browned barrels have a mottled brown/gray patina throughout, soft rib markings, and some light pitting and oxidation. The receiver and locks have an overall gray patina with sharp engraving and light spotting overall. The heavily worn wood is also good with mostly worn checkering, numerous dings and dents throughout, and hairline cracks behind the upper tang and left lock. Mechanically fine. These are absent from most Winchester collections!
