Description:

Manufactured in 1886. This rifle has the Third Model receiver with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges. Dovetail blade front sight and "1876" marked folding ladder rear sight on a barrel stamped with the two-line address/patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight and "CAL 45-75" at the breech. The cartridge elevator is marked "45-75." The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1876." The serial number is stamped in script on the lower tang. The smooth straight grip stock is fitted with a trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rod not included). The .45-75 was designed to replicate the well respected .45-70 cartridge in a shorter repeating action and was used by many American sportsmen and frontiersmen in the late 19th century America, including a boisterous twenty-two year old who purchased an 1876 as his first Winchester: Theodore Roosevelt.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retaining 60% original blue finish on the barrel with the balance a smooth brown patina. The magazine has been touched up overall with artificial brown. There is some light pitting on the receiver. 20% faded original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. 40% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The refinished wood is fine with minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
