The top of the barrel is faintly marked "NEW MODEL 1863" behind the R.S. Lawrence adjustable ladder rear sight. The action has standard Sharps and Lawrence patent markings featuring a saddle ring bar with ring on the left side. This is one of 60,000 New Model 1863 carbines manufactured for use during the Civil War and one of 27,000 Sharps carbines relined to .50 caliber and chambered for the .50-70 cartridge after the war for impending use in the Indian wars.

Fine, retains 70% arsenal refurbished blue finish and some strong flashes of original case colors with the balance a smooth grey patina. The wood is fine with minor dings, scratches, and chips throughout. The cartouches are clear. Mechanically excellent.
