Description:

10,000 Model 1841 Rifles were manufactured by Robbins, Kendall & Lawrence in Windsor, Vermont from 1845-1848. This example features the mid-1850s arsenal alterations including a bayonet stud on the right side of the barrel to accept a saber bayonet and the long range rear sight graduated from 1 to 4 on the base and 5 to 7 on the ladder. Despite these later alterations, it does not appear to be rebored and retains an earlier brass tipped trumpet head ramrod. The lock and refinished barrel tang are both dated "1847" and there is a visible cartouche on the left of the stock flat.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The steel is a mottled grey/brown patina with some scattered minor pitting and the brass is mostly bright with a slight aged patina. A small piece is broken off the right side of the rear sight elevation ramp. The wood is good with minor scratches and dings throughout, a short hairline crack on the left near the lock plate screw, and a few scattered minor chips. Mechanically excellent.
