Description:

Only 12,158 of Model 1855 rifle-muskets were manufactured at Harpers Ferry compared to 47,115 manufactured at Springfield. They were a staple of the Civil War era, and some of the Harpers Ferry rifle-muskets along with the machinery to manufacture them were captured by Confederate forces and used during the war. It is dated "1859" on the barrel, "1858" on the lock, and has visible stock cartouches. It shows standard markings and features for the period of production.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The steel is mostly a mottled bright with an applied protective coat and a few scattered patches of light pitting. Aged patina on the brass forend. The wood is fine with some minor handling marks and divots, and a few minor surface chips. Mechanically excellent.
