The accompanying factory letter lists this Model 1866 as a carbine when received in the warehouse on June 22, 1883, and shipped on March 25, 1884. Manufactured as a fourth model with an iron buttplate. The bolt has the correct rimfire firing pin. The barrel has the two-line address/patent dates marking ahead of the single folding leaf rear sight. A saddle ring is mounted on the left side of the receiver. The smooth carbine stock has a trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rod not included).

Fair. The barrel and magazine tube have a mixed lightly pitted dark and gray patina with pitting throughout. The loading gate is a replacement and the rear sight has been altered. The brass has a bright appearance. The wood is good with minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
