Description:

William Billinghurst (1807-1880) of Rochester, New York, is known to have produced incredibly accurate rifles in various styles and is particularly remembered today for his revolving and underhammer rifles. He was also a well-known and accomplished marksman himself. This rifle was built for benchrest matches and has a false muzzle, adjustable full length tube sight, "W. BILLINGHURST ROCHESTER N.Y." on the top of the barrel in the breech section, partial "TON/EEL" marking (full marking would be "REMINGTON/CAST STEEL") on the bottom of the barrel at the breech, brass rest on the bottom of the barrel near the muzzle, lightly engraved breech, and a checkered buttstock with crescent buttplate featuring an engraved heel.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 25% original blue blended with brown patina and patches of oxidation on the barrel, mottled gray patina on the breech, thin brown finish and gray patina along with minor oxidation/pitting on the sight tube, tape on the rear of the sight, small marks and scratches on the metal and wood, and distinct checkering and markings. Mechanically fine.
