The engraved revolver with pearl grips on pages 90 and 95 of "The Guns of Remington" has the same pattern of engraving on the barrels and somewhat similar scrollwork. The engraving may be by L.D. Nimschke; note the "Nimschke stars" on the trigger guards and butts as well as the overall high quality scrollwork. They are finished in a combination of silver and silver-gilt as well as what appears to be gold plating over nickel on the cylinders. The barrels have the standard factory address, patent, and "NEW MODEL" markings. "428" (A) and "488" (B) are marked on the cylinders and cylinder breech plates, and "7052" (A) and "7062" (B) are marked on the bottom of the barrels, trigger guard "teats," and butts.

Very fine with 90% original silver plating and patches of silver-gilt finish throughout showing varied aged patina, 85% bright original gold in some of the protected areas, light aged patina on the exposed brass, crisp engraving and markings, and minor aged related wear. The grips as very fine aside from a chip on the heel on the right and have attractive iridescent colors. Mechanically fine.

Very fine with 90% original silver plating and patches of silver-gilt finish showing aged patinas, 80% bright original gold in some of the protected areas such at the top of the loading lever, light aged patina on the exposed brass, distinct engraving and markings, and mostly minor aged related wear. The grips as very good and have some small chips on the lower edges, a larger crack/sliver absent from the heel on the right, and beautiful natural iridescent colors. Mechanically fine. This is a very fine pair of mid-1870s Remington cartridge revolvers possibly engraved by famed Master Engraver L.D. Nimschke.
