Description:

Approximately 25,000 Model 1875s were manufactured between 1875 and 1889. The serial number "55" is marked on the trigger guard, loading gate, grip frame, and the grips (pencil). This could be an early revolver or one of the latter revolvers which were numbered in batches. It is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A" on top of the barrel and "44," indicating .44-40 caliber, on the left frame flat at the breech.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% plus original nickel plating, some light pitting concentrated on the cylinder, and minor overall wear. Mechanically functions fine, but does not index all the way. The Remington Model 1875 is an important model for American firearms collectors as it represents Remington's attempt to compete with Colt in the late 19th century. Many of these revolvers saw hard use out west, and high condition examples such as this revolver are difficult to find.
