Manufactured in 1886 as a third model with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated rear edge. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .38 caliber and plain trigger when received in the warehouse on July 20, 1886. No shipping date was indicated. The barrel has the two-line address/patent date marking, dovetail blade front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight. "38 CAL" is marked on the cartridge elevator, and "MODEL 1873" is marked on the upper tang. The smooth straight grip stock has a trapdoor buttplate. Includes a four piece cleaning rod.

Fine, retaining 70% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. 60% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. Some faded original case colors remain on the hammer and lever, and patterns of original case colors remain on the buttplate. The wood is also fine showing a couple hairline stress cracks at the forend cap and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
