Description:

This revolver resembles the earlier transitional revolvers; however, it does have cylinder stops, and it actually is a fairly advanced revolver design in that the cylinder chambers are slightly recessed at the front and overlap with the breech end of the barrel partially when fired which creates a better gas seal than found on the revolvers by Colt and others in the period. A sliding half-cock safety is also along the top of the action. The blued barrel has small bead and notch sights, "JOSEPH LANG 22 COCKSPUR ST LONDON.," London proof and view marks. The casehardened cylinder has the chambers numbered 1 through 5 on the front and alternating London proof and view marks around the outside. The casehardened frame has fine English scroll and border engraving. The grip is fluted like French percussion target pistols and has a blued and engraved cap. It comes in a hardwood case with a Joseph Lang trade label inside that matches the barrel, a cap container, large bullet mold marked "50," bore rod, powder flask, oiler, cap tin, screwdriver, and nipple wrench.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine with 95% plus bright original high polish blue and 80% casehardened finishes, light handling and storage marks, crisp markings and engraving, and minor edge wear. The grip is very fine and has glossy varnished finish, distinct fluting, attractive striped figure, and minor scrapes and dings. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are all excellent with minor storage wear, including fading of the lining, minor scratches, and some corner wear on the case. This revolver would be nearly impossible to improve upon.
