Christian Friedrich Riegenring of Rotha in central Germany was active in the first half of the 19th century. The barrel has a bead style blade front sight, notch and folding leaf rear sight, punch dot textured surfaces accented by floral motifs, and "Riegenring a Rotha" in silver inlay on top at the breech. The breech plug is silver banded and has scroll engraving. The lock has a mix of floral, scroll, and border engraving patterns and is signed "Riegenring/a Rotha" at center. The other furniture is mostly German silver with scroll, floral, and border engraving. It is equipped with double set triggers and sling swivels. The stock has raised relief floral carving, a wooden patch box lid, pin accented checkering on the wrist, cheek rest with scroll carving at the front and rear, and a reposed stag by a tree carved in raised relief at the butt on the left, the rifle's main quarry.

Fine overall with a mix of fading original blue finish and gray and brown patina along the barrel, all of the silver inlay remaining and showing aged patina, subtle original case colors on the lock and breech, crisp engraving, light aged patina on the German silver, minor edge wear, and general minor handling and storage marks. The stock has attractive figure, glossy original finish, mostly crisp checkering, scattered scratches and dings, a slight hairline crack on the left flat, and distinct carving. Mechanically excellent. This is a very attractive and classic German hunting rifle from the early percussion era.
