The consignor indicated this pair was manufactured around 1720, and it certainly bares a resemblance to others from the early 18th century, particularly from Bohemia and Austria. They have no visible maker's marks, nor any marks on the inside of the locks. The smoothbore barrels have brass blade front sights with tendril bases, sighting ribs, silver inlaid panoply of arms and spear arms soldier motifs between the sighting ribs and the stepped breech sections which have additional silver inlays. There are detailed engraving scenes throughout the remaining components that primarily relate to hunting, including a bear scene on the locks, deer hunting scenes on the tendril pommel caps, and a huntsman with his dogs on the trigger guard. Note that the mounted huntsman on the locks and pommels is using pistols. The pierced side plates have intricate scrollwork and a seated topless Greco-Roman female figure with a staff and her dog. Other designs consists of mostly arabesque patterns. The stocks have horn forend caps, raised relief arabesque patterns at the top of the wrists, raised relief floral patterns and incise work on the bottom of the mid-sections, and nicely formed flats. The ramrods have horn tips.

Fine with half of the bright blue finish on the barrel, aged patina on the silver, lightly aged brass, bright lock with slight aging, some faint hints of oxidation/pitting, and insignificant light marks and scratches. The engraving and carving are crisp. Mechanically excellent.
