Description:

William Parker (1772-1841) was active in London c. 1793-1841. After Parker's death, the business became Parker, Field & Sons under his step-son and step-grandsons. The left side of the box lock actions has "W. PARKER/HOLBORN," and the right side has "LONDON." Both sides have martial themed engraving. The lower barrel and breech of A has "1" on the left, and the lower and upper barrel and breech of B respectively have "2" and "3." The bottom of the breech of each pistol has Tower private proofs. The small lever on the left side of the pistols rotates the pan to allow for two rapid shots from each pistol with relatively little manipulation of the gun. The barrels unscrew to allow for loading from the breech which also allows for greater pressures. The grips are checkered and have star pattern engraving on the silver caps and "JH" inscribed silver escutcheons on the back. The case lid escutcheon is inscribed "Jno Hunt". The inside of the lid has a William Parker trade label addressed as No. 233 High Holborn and "No. 8" handwritten on the rear panel. The case also contains several lead balls and some flints, and a bullet mold is in the compartment under the guns. Naturally, there are a great many John and Jonathan Hunts in records for the period. Among them are members of the prominent Hunt family in Vermont, American millionaire John Wesley Hunt, multiple English merchants and craftsmen, a printer in London, and others.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with bright niter blue on the frizzen spring, dark gray and brown patina throughout, crisp engraving, aged patina on the silver, and mild overall wear. The grip is fine and has crisp checkering and minor handling and storage wear. The left arm of the sliding safety is partially separated, but the gun is mechanically fine.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with a patch of bright niter blue on the frizzen spring, dark gray and brown patina throughout, distinct markings and engraving, aged patina on the silver, and general mild overall wear. The grip is very fine and has crisp checkering and minimal handling and storage wear. Mechanically fine. The case is very good with mild age related wear, some compression marks and rubwear on the lining from the pistols, and light scratches on the exterior. This is a very attractive set of distinctive English pistols.
