Manufactured in 1878 as an ejectorless variation with a 4 1/2 inch barrel. The barrel is stamped with the two-line Hartford address on top and has the etched panel "COLT. D.A. 38" on the left side. The frame has the three-line patent dates marking, and the trigger guard is marked "38 CAL." London proofs are on the barrel and cylinder. Matching serial numbers are found on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Fitted with a scarce one-piece hard rubber grip. Includes a Colt Model 1877 box correctly listing caliber and barrel length (serial number illegible).

Very fine, retaining 90% plus frosted original nickel finish taking on a frost appearance with flaking on the balance. Nearly all of the etched barrel panel remains. 70% original nitre blue remains on the hammer and trigger. The grip is excellent with crisp checkering overall. The box is very good with a couple of holes and wear. Most of the lid label remains.
