Description:

The accompanying John Kopec letter states this revolver was manufactured in 1874, sub-inspected by O.W. Ainsworth and falls into a serial number range of Cavalry Model revolvers known to have been issued to the State of Virginia and later sold as surplus to arms dealer Hermann Boker. O.W. Ainsworth's desirable "A" inspector mark is found on the barrel, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder. A "P" proof is found on the barrel and cylinder. It has the one-line Hartford barrel address, two-line patent dates and "U.S." frame markings, correct bullseye ejector rod head and matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder and barrel. The left side of the grip has a script letter cartouche. Ainsworth physically inspected SAA revolvers recorded in the serial number range 200 through 14343. This was the first major block of U.S. Cavalry revolvers.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 25% of the original blue and casehardened finishes mostly visible in and around the protected areas and scattered spots of artificial brown on the barrel, otherwise a smooth gray patina on the balance. There is some scattered pitting. The undersized replacement grip has a faded cartouche and minimal handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
