According to the Colt letter, this pistol was part of a 50-piece shipment to Richards & Conover Hardware Company of Kansas City, Missouri on March 30, 1920. In 2007, it was brought to John J. Adams Senior of Adams & Adams Engraving and, per the Adams signed letter, received "D" grade master engraving, a 24 karat gold plate finish, and a set of sapphire inlays on the slide. The "J.ADAMS" signature is on the front strap just above the magazine toe, and the original factory markings have been well preserved. Over 90% of the surface is covered with fine engraving, primarily in the "punch-dot backed scroll" associated with Colt's factory engraved firearms, with additional floral accents, areas of dotted checkerboard work, and tight lines of vinework along the top of the side, down the trigger guard, and up the grip safety. The matching numbered slide has a set of floral patterns at the rear, each of which has a "round brilliant" cut sapphire set in the middle; both gems are staked in four places, with a diameter of approximately .12 inches and the interior of the slide cleanly drilled out for illumination purposes. The barrel, trigger, thumb safety, magazine catch and magazine are blue finished, with niter blue accents on the muzzle, chamber, trigger and magazine catch.

Very fine overall as master embellished by John Adams Sr., with 98% plus high quality gold finish, showing some light handling marks. The blued components are equally excellent, and the grips show attractive grain and color. Mechanically excellent.
