Description:

Manufactured in 1908, the pistol has the high polish Colt commercial blue finish with casehardened round hammer, niter blue trigger and grip serrations at the rear of the slide. The pistol has a 7-shot magazine and lacks the slide stop and lanyard loop found on the Model 1902 Military Pistol. The left side of the slide is marked with third style, two-line, patent dates and Hartford address followed by the circled Rampant Colt behind the slide serrations. The right side of the slide has the standard "AUTOMATIC COLT / CALIBRE 38* RIMLESS SMOKELESS" marking. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with the Colt "VP" verified proof mark at the top and a "6" inspection mark at the bottom. The later production replacement magazine is blued and marked "CAL. 38 / COLT" on the floor plate. The grips are checkered hard rubber with "COLT" in a ribbon at the top and the circled Rampant Colt molded in the center. Formerly from the Will Hoffeld Collection, purchased from a Museum in Santa Ana, CA. in 1980.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The pistol retains 90% of the bright original high polished Colt blue finish remaining with wear on the front and high edges of the slide, some high edges of the frame and some thinning to a grey brown on the upper slide. The trigger retains almost all of the original bright niter finish and the hammer retains 50% of the original faded case colors. The grips are excellent with a light bruise on the left panel, a few light handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. A very nice original Colt 1902 Sporting pistol.
