Description:

According to the included factory letter, this pistol was one of six shipped to the Shelton-Payne Arms Company of El Paso, Texas on November 8, 1911. Overall markings and features are standard, though some adjustments have been made. The sights have been enhanced by the addition of a white bead (possibly a repurposed shotgun mid-bead) immediately behind the front sight, and the right grip panel has a deeply carved symbol, either a stylized dollar sign or a "Tumbling S Reverse J" in cattle brand terms. The marking has not been positively identified; a successful search may turn up interesting information on the use of the pistol. This pistol is consecutively numbered to the next lot. A "kraft" style collector's box hand-labeled to match the pistol is included.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 40% plus of the bright original blue finish. 50% of the original nitre blue remains on the trigger. Most of the slide and grip straps has turned a mixed brown patina, with mild patina concentrated on the formed, edge wear and mild scratches. The grips are also fine, with mild dents and scratches, and the depth of the symbol shows natural aging. A crack is forming in the front of the magazine, otherwise the pistol is mechanically fine.
