Description:

This is an exceptional example of a mid-WWII M1 Garand that was originally manufactured in Nov/Dec 1943 that was subsequently rebuilt by Springfield Armory in 1966. It was then sold through the DCM (not CMP) program in the late 1970s to a Rock Island Arsenal employee and has remained in the white storage bag, unfired and unoiled until today. It was handpicked for the employee, was upgraded and fitted with a 3-53 LMR (Line Material) barrel with a partially glass bedded stock. It has the standard Springfield Armory receiver markings over serial number, "2286859". The right receiver leg is correctly electro-etched "SA/1-66" and it has the very desirable LMR marked barrel. The LMR barrel were highly prized for their exceptional accuracy and were used by many of the USMC match shooters. It has a the correct WWII, Springfield Armory marked bolt (SA-19) and trigger group (SA-14) with mostly Springfield Armory manufactured internal parts. It is also fitted with a desirable IHC marked operating rod that is marked "D-6535382-IHC". It has the desirable narrow-base gas cylinder, round top gas lock and late four slot gas plug. It has the standard post war rear sight assembly, marked "DRC" on the right side. It is fitted with an all walnut stock and handguard set. The stock has a deep DOD Defense Eagle cartouche on the left side with a deep single "P" proof in the pistol grip area. The stock was glass bedded under the trigger housing to tighten up the lock up. The stock still retains the original finale grease pencil "E" inspectors mark on the flat of the pistol grip. It comes complete with its original DCM shipping box white bag storage bag and complete BII set that includes the three piece cleaning rod, handle bore brush, chamber brush, cleaning patch holder and green web sling.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, the metal parts retain 99% of the arsenal refurbished parkerized finish overall showing no wear on the metal parts. The wood components are all in like new condition as arsenal refurbished with deep cartouches and proofs. The entire rifle is still in its original "dry" condition having new been oiled or handled after being rebuilt over "50" year ago. This is real time capsule for the advanced M1 collector as most of these were immediately taken out and used on the rifle ranges.
