Description:

This is a very good example of a U.S. M1 Garand rifle that has been converted into a M1D sniper rifle configuration. The M1D sniper rifles were an improvement over the M1Cs in that any standard M1 Garand rifle could be converted to this sniper rifle configuration by just adding the new M1D barrel. This allowed a standard M1 Garand to be overhauled and converted into a M1D sniper configuration. They were developed at the very end of WWII but were used primarily during the Korean War and Vietnam with many example being retained by some National Guard and Reserve units into the mid 1970s. The rear of the receiver has the standard Springfield Armory markings over serial number "2005400" with this receiver being originally manufactured in early 1941. It currently has a mix of early and late SA marked WWII and post-war parts. It is fitted with an early Springfield M1D barrel marked: "S-A-7-51" and it comes with a correct M84 sniper scope with correct M1D mount. The serial number of the scope is "1891" and comes with a rubber eyepiece and sun shield. This rifle is fitted with a set of walnut handguards and a walnut buttstock. The stock has a faint circled "P" proof in the pistol grip and an SA open box cartouche on the stock under the lace on leather cheekpiece stamped "MRT/2-52" which is also secured with two brass screws on the underside. It is complete with a "HART M2" stamped flash hider and a green unmarked web sling.

Rating Definition:

Fine as assembled with 85% of a light gray re-parkerized type finish on the action and operating rod with a darker gray parkerized finish on the barrel assembly overall. The sanded stock and handguard are all in very good condition with minimal handling marks on the sides, having been refinished. The cheekpiece is in excellent condition. The scope retains 95% of its blue finish overall with clear sharp optics. Mechanically excellent. A representative example of a Springfield M1D sniper rifle.
