Description:

The accompanying Roe Clark letter indicates this Model 1899 rifle is listed in the factory records as having a round barrel in .25-35 caliber, fancy American walnut stock with "B" checkering, grade "A" engraving with stippled matting, "stoned" bolt and "name and scroll engraved" when shipped on December 4, 1907 to A.J. Somerville. The fully stipple matted receiver has the grade "A" engraving on the sides with the addition of the name "A.J. SOMERVILLE" inside a ribbon on the underside. Pinned blade front sight, filler block in the rear sight dovetail, Marble folding tang peep sight, highly figured walnut straight grip stock with fine grade "B" checkering, and hard rubber Savage buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 85% plus original blue with some thinning and some cold blue touch up on a three inch section of the barrel rear of the muzzle. 80% plus original case colors remain on the lever. The wood is also very fine with a couple barely noticeable hairline stress cracks near the upper tang, minor dings and scratches throughout and a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Overall a highly attractive factory engraved Model 1899 rifle for your growing Savage collection.
